UGC NET Coaching – The Eligibility Criteria for the Exam


Hey all the candidates of UGC NET, before you star head over heels for the preparation of the exam get to know about the eligibility criteria. We know your UGC NET Coaching will make you aware of the facts and details of the eligibility. But it is possible that many of you still haven’t joined a coaching and will take your own time to join.

Here is the list of eligibility:

Marks and Degree

If you have a Master Degree in the subject you will take the UGC NET Coaching and exam or any equivalent exam from institutions/universities recognized by UGC, you are eligible.

You need 50% marks in the subjects if you are SC / ST / PH / VH. For general category students, it is 55% marks.

For the final year students of Master degree

Students who are appearing for the final exam of their Master degree and side by side preparing for this entrance exam at their UGC NET Coaching can also apply and sit for the exam.

However, these sorts of candidates will be admitted temporarily and will be considered eligible only after they have cleared their Master’s degree or other equivalent examination with the above mentioned marks. These candidates have to complete their Master degree within two years from the date of published NET result with required percentage of marks, or else they will be treated disqualified.,/p>

The Age Limit

To apply for the Junior Research Fellowship (as on December 01, 2010), the maximum age limit is 28 years. For the lectureship there is no upper age limit of eligibility.

However there is a relaxation of 5 years, if you fall under the category of SC/ ST/ OBC/ PH/ VH or if you are a woman. Relaxation for applying the lectureship is also offered to the candidates having experience in research.
