It has been reiterated again and again that the Paper-1 is a significant element of the UGC Exam. A high score in this section can give the students a significant edge over others and helps him to increase his overall score as well. Thus it is important to understand the nature of the Paper-1.

  1. Scheme of Paper 1
    The candidate who is likely to initiate the preparation for the UGC NET Examination Paper 1 should understand that the basic pattern of the Paper 1 is General. This implies that there could be diverse things that can be asked. There isn’t a single book that can cover the entire syllabus. There are 50 questions to be attempted out of the 60 for Paper-1. Thus one has to do selective studying.
    Content of Paper-1
    i)Easy Questions like Comprehension(5-6 Questions)
    ii)Data Interpretation(5-6 Questions)
    iii)Teaching Aptitude

    One should understand that there are a few topics in Paper-1 for which you need a long time while there were questions which could be answered instantly. The questions are spread around Deductive Reasoning, Analogical Argument, Types of definitions (Lexical, Stipulative, Precision, Persuasive). However, there are questions that are repeated in the exam regularly. These are:
    1.One Question from each of 12 types of research (every time).
    2.4-5 questions on teaching and classroom concepts.
    3.Conversion from decimal to binary or otherwise.
    4. Go through 300-400 pages of Polity and Indian Constitution to get 2-3 questions attempted.
    5.Tough questions on pollution.
    Ideal Strategy for Paper 1

    Every candidate should solve last year papers. These provide the prospective candidates with an understanding of what kind of questions to expect in the actual Exam. Solve last year 5-6 papers. They are available on UGC/CBSE websites.
    Initiate with solving a couple of papers which shall provide you with a review of the exam. Follow it with the reading of books and Notes. Revise from the notes again and again to strengthen your concepts.
